Istanbul Contemporary Art Institute Delves into the Question of Knowledge

Last week saw the opening of “The Knowledge Series 1: Production” exhibition, the first in a series of three, at the Balat-based nonprofit Plato Art Space institution in Istanbul.

Compiled by German curator Marcus Graf, its featured works include those of American Greg Wolff, Matthias Maenner of Germany and up-and-coming young Turkish artists Erdem Ergaz and Sümer Sayın.

The first part of the exhibition, which will continue until June 6, discusses the relationship between art and production, mediation and (re-)collection of knowledge. In a postmodern society that trusts science and knowledge, the exhibition aims to address different ways of dealing with knowledge.

“Knowledge is always limited by its temporal and sociocultural as well as geopolitical contexts, which is why we have to constantly question and renew it,” curator Graf, who has been curating in Istanbul since 2003, explained in an interview with Today’s Zaman.
