Comedy Fest Brings Humorous Days to Istanbul

A carnival parade up Istanbul’s İstiklal Avenue will kick off Turkey’s first International Comedy Festival, a celebration of hilarity in all its forms.

Running until May 15 at various locations across the city, the festival will feature stand-up acts by a global collection of famous comedians, comedic street parades, exhibitions, comedy sketches, open-mic nights and a celebration of the work of the late Turkish comedy master Oğuz Aral on the anniversary of his birth.

Well-known U.S. cartoonists Fred Harper and Peter Kuper, French strip cartoonist Christophe Delvalle, Spanish cartoonist and animation master Pernan Goni and German pantomime masters Bodecker & Neander are the featured foreign guests of the first Turkish International Comedy Festival.

The festival is being organized by the Hayalgücü Organization with the support of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Beyoğlu Municipality. For more information, visit www.mizahfest.org.
