At the MoMA Store, Designs From the Streets of Istanbul

Destination: Istanbul, the latest in a series of product collections developed in other countries for the Museum of Modern Art, has its debut next week at the museum’s stores in Midtown and SoHo (and is online now).

Bonnie Mackay, the museum’s director of merchandising, creative and marketing, explained: “My team and I act as detectives — we go there and we look. In Istanbul, we spent a lot of time in food markets. There’s a whole culture around coffee and tea, how it’s delivered on these great trays swinging from hands. It was so poetic, and so beautiful.”

The collection took more than a year to amass and draws from existing designs, she said: “I’ve never seen designers love their city so much, and the love is in the design of the products.”
