Tulip Festival Kicks off In Istanbul

Over 20 million tulips are in full bloom around Turkey's lagest city of Istanbul as the 6th International Istanbul Tulip Festival kicked off here on Friday, reports China Xinhua news agency.

Speaking of the economic potential of the tulips, Mayor Kadir Topbas said that the municipality's tulip planting
and festival projects keep the economy of the city lively amidst the economic crisis.

He added that the tulips also brought visitors who contributed to the city's economy.

"These tulips, which is a part of us, went to Holland 150 years ago, and now the tulips has returned home."
