Istanbul's Four Seasons Shows off New Spa and Hamam

In today’s world, every five-star hotel has to have a spa or hamam whether or not it is required in that particular part of the world. It is the guest who comes to stay at a hotel that expects it. One of the most recent additions to the Istanbul scene is the spa and hamam at the Four Seasons at the Bosphorus.

Here was a palace from the 19th century that needed a whole nine years of restoration before it could open as the five-star Four Seasons at the Bosphorus. The hotel has many wonderful elements but one of the really outstanding features is its spa and hamam.

“[A spa and a Turkish hamam] can be in a city, the countryside or elsewhere,” Onur Özgül, the lead designer at the Metex Design Group, which was responsible for the Four Seasons’s spa and hamam,” recently told the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review. “I try to see the relation between the building and its surroundings. It gives me a lot of clues about where we need to go with the direction of the design that develop the whole character of the design, including patterns, materials and colors."
