Istanbul Film Festival Honors Veterans, Cinemas in 30th Year

Individuals and institutions who have lent support to the festival throughout its 30-year history -- from film critics to screening machine operators, from the festival’s founders to theaters that host festival screenings -- were honored on Wednesday at a special gala at The Marmara Esma Sultan.

Probably the most touching recognition of the night went to movie theaters in Beyoğlu that have been hosting the festival since it started in 1982 as a film week with a tiny slate of just six titles.

The festival wraps up on Saturday night with an awards ceremony where the winners of its national and international competitions will be announced.
